Regional and family traditions vary, but this often consists of goose, duck or turkey, supplemented with red cabbage and potatoes or potato dumplings. There was often a clear distinction between trading cities, such as Leipzig, and court cities, such as Dresden. Until the nineteenth century, however, the urban population was very modest in size.

These are usually knee-high and are historically worn by working-class German men wearing rustic shoes and wool socks. Leather pants used in the Bavarian region had features such as suspenders and front fins, and these were quickly adopted by other countries. These pants were worn with shirts and sweaters made of thick linen or wool. Other garments in combination with the trousers were woolen stockings and country shoes.
In 1926 Moritz Wallach founded the Wallach-haus, a specialized supplier of attempts and folk art, which became known beyond the borders of Germany. The blouse changes the overall effect of the dirndl mainly by cutting her cleavage. A deep-cut blouse is combined with a deep-cut bodice to accentuate the cleavage, while a blouse with a high neckline gives a more modest effect. In traditional designs, the neckline of the blouse is located at the base of the throat.
Moritz Wallach emigrated to the United States, followed shortly thereafter by Julius. His brother Max, who had also been involved in the case, was interned in dachau concentration camp and was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. Some traditional designs have pieces that cover the chest, often combined with an elaborate necklace.
Local Bavarian men usually only buy custom-made leather pants as adults and rarely wash them, which increases the look. The most expensive lederhosen are often handmade from deer Moser Dirndl skin and sewn by a real manufacturer from Lederhosen (Säckler). Deer skin is a very durable and robust material that feels softer than the cheaper cowhide used in Lederhosen.
